The Mama Misitu Secretariat are responsible for facilitating Mama Misitu's partners to implement the Campaign.

    Nicholas has over 14 years of experience in the community-based management of natural resources with more than nine years of experience in the coastal forests and Eastern Arc mountains. He has worked with international and local conservation organizations. Nicholas brings to Mama Msitu extensive experience in managing project cycles, project design, project implementation and monitoring and evaluation. In addition he has a particular interest in institutional strengthening and capacity building in natural resources management, particularly focusing on community-conservation approaches.

    Mama Misitu Technical Advisor

    Nike is Technical Advisor to the Tanzania Forest Conservation Group (TFCG) which is a leading member of the Tanzania Forestry Working Group. TFCG is a Tanzanian non-governmental organisation promoting the conservation of the Eastern Arc / Coastal forest biodiversity hotspot. For the last 19 years TFCG has worked to provide sustainable solutions to the problems that have driven deforestation in this unique area.

    Nike was educated at Christ Church, Oxford and at University College, London and began her career as a marine conservationist in Belize. Her earlier research work in the forests of Tanzania yielded the discovery of various new species, including a frog from the Eastern Arc Mountains which is named after her -- Arthroleptis nikeae.

    Nike is Technical Advisor to the Mama Misitu Campaign and brings with her many years of experience in forest conservation project management - including communications work with forest-adjacent communities.

    Mama Misitu Administrator

    Nangena Mtango has over 5 years experience working with various NGOs and academic institutions. Her work has included project management support and general administration. As a research assistant she worked with communities engaged in forest conservation in Tanga and Morogoro Districts.

    Nangena’s academic and professional training and achievements consist of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Master's degree in Development Studies. Prior to her university education she held a diploma in Secretarial Science and a Diploma in Modern Management and Administration.

    Nangena would like to become a researcher/consultant who contributes to improvements in national development policies and practices making a positive impact on the lives of the needy in Tanzania.

    Mama Misitu Campaign Coordinator and Communications Manager

    Rehema joined the Mama Misitu Secretariat in February 2008 to co-lead Mama Misitu - a project of the Tanzania Forest Working Group.

    Rehema has 14 years of experience in development, communication and programme planning. Rehema has a track-record of successful management, development and implementation of communications, dissemination and publication strategies for organizations such as FARM-Africa Tanzania and Plan International. Although relatively new to natural resource management issues, Rehema's communications management skills will come to the fore in leading the new Mama Misitu communications and advocacy campaign.
